I was born in Southampton and use the surrounding countryside, including the New Forest, Lymington, the River Hamble and Warsash, as a basis for the fictional villages of Calahurst and Port Rell in my novels. My grandfather was the Harbour Master at the River Hamble for over 30 years. My parents grew strawberries and sent them to Covent Garden market. As a child, I was passionate about reading, watching films and listening to all kinds of music, from rock to punk - and nothing much has changed! |

My first significant job was as a civilian clerk/typist as the police training headquarters in Hampshire. By the time I left the police to write full-time, I had worked as a course administrator in the weapons training department, as the administrative officer at one of the police stations and finally as the office manager for the inspectorate. |

My first novel, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes was published by Poolbeg, after I had entered their ‘Write A Bestseller’ competition. My second novel, Why Do Fools Fall In Love? was published in 2003 and my third novel, A Girl’s Best Friend is out now. I’ve also had short stories and articles published in both the UK and Ireland. |

My advice to anyone wanting to write and publish a novel is to read a lot, write a lot and never give up! Writing is definitely an endurance sport! |
