Real Life Locations

The New Forest, Lymington and Warsash

This is Warsash (left), on the banks of the Hamble River - in turn, the inspiration for the River Hurst. Further along the river, towards the A27 and the boatyards of Bursledon, is where the BBC filmed Howard’s Way back in the 1980s.

This is Lymington in the New Forest (right).

In
Why Do Fools Fall In Love? Shelby recalls a mugger dragging her all the way down to Calahurst Quay “after which she felt she knew each cobblestone intimately”. This was the street I had in mind!

This, again, is Lymington and, along with Warsash, inspiration for Calahurst Quay.

OK, time to own up - Calahurst does not exist! The good news, however, is that it was inspired by the New Forest and a village in Hampshire called Warsash.
